Election closes Friday; Virtual Adviser Happy Hour next week

Officer Elections | Board Meeting | Confabs | Virtual Adviser Happy Hour

The current CMA membership is now voting on candidates for board president-elect, secretary and treasurer. Want to learn more about the candidates and their experience and goals? The recording of last week’s CMA Candidate Forum is available here.

Current members are also voting on proposed changes to the organization’s bylaws. Recommended changes include substantial revisions and minor corrections to improve clarity and accuracy in CMA’s governing documents. Examples include removing the requirement that chairs can only lead one standing committee and eliminating automatic board liaison assignments; clarifying that the Awards Committee coordinates all adviser awards except the John A. Boyd Hall of Fame award; and streamlining the Contest Committee description to remove specific conference and award program references. Several other minor, technical corrections, if approved, would address typos, formatting inconsistencies and duplicate language.

Voting will take place through Friday, April 10, and the election will be certified on Monday, April 13. Current adviser members and lifetime members are eligible to vote. (Student media, affiliate and honorary members do not vote.) Last week, eligible voters should have received a separate email from CMA with voting instructions and unique login credentials. This information is specific to you, so please do not forward the email or share your credentials with anyone.

If you have questions or concerns, email [email protected].

CMA will be holding its monthly board meeting at 2:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 21.

“Media Macro: Online Career Networking and More”
5 p.m. ET Wednesday, April 15

Cost: FREE

Journalism is starting to look very different as the world gets ever more connected. Media now expands beyond the newsroom into marketing, interactives, documentary and more. With the variety of career options for those who love journalism and broadcast, how do we prepare students to find a career they love using the skills they already get to perfect within student media?

Media Macro was developed to help showcase and expand what students see as a "journalism job," encompassing perspectives from freelance writers, short form filmmakers, interactive illustrators and more. This training will break down how to identify and collect student and alumni data to follow trends in career placements, establish connections with student media alumni mentors, and develop programming and resources that show the variety of media career options.

Presented by Kat Medina, Director of Student Media, Savannah College of Art and Design
