As a central focus of its mission, College Media Advisers seeks to serve the student media community through annual conventions and workshops on a variety of educational topics. CMA stages major conventions twice a year

CLICK HERE FOR INFO ON FALL 2010: In the fall, CMA partners with Associated Collegiate Press, assisted by Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc. to host a convention that draws 2,500 students and advisers for four days of worshops, classes, programs, speakers and some fun. The next National Fall College Media Convention will be Oct. 27-31, 2010, Louisville, Kentucky.

COMING SOON -- INFO ON SPRING 2011: In the spring, CMA starts a week in mid-March with three days of unconventional education with the movers and shakers in the Media center of the world, as well as giving delegates a chance to explore New York City. The spring Convention will March 13-15, 2011, at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

Tales from FERPA crypt

Tell us your FERPA horror stories. The Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act was intended to protect educational records. However, as many know, some institutions have extended the definition of "educational" records to keep what should be public information behind a veil of secrecy. Kevin Schwartz at the University of North Carolin at Chapel Hill is collecting FERPA "horror story" anecdotes in an effort to make a case for reform of FERPA restrictions. Committee Zone seeks to boost CMA panels

As discussed at the Advisory Council Meeting in Kansas City, The CMA is providing more support and resources for the shared use of its committees.

All CMA committee chairs should contact the webmaster so a special committee email and access to the committee working resource area on the web site can be provided.
