CMA: Workshops

Immersion Learning Zones

CMA provides several educational opportunities for its members in addition to its two national conventions.

DIGITAL CAMPUS is an initiative that seeks to place a strong emphasis on news and emerging media that are transforming the media landsccape. At the core of this enterprise is CMA's new mobile instructional laboratory... or Lab On Wheels (LOW), which will provide the technology to support instruction in the lates media deployments.

CMA's New Adviser Workshop is a focused master class offered each summer and taught by members of CMA's board of directors. In addition to the instructional sessions on advising, budgeting, law, ethics and other topics, the workshop provides an excellent opportunity for participants to share ideas and establish a personal network of CMA members nationwide.

CMA offers Advising Today's College Student Media each summer as an opportunity for new and experienced advisers to focus on specific issues and developing trends. Find out more information at the Associated Collegiate Press web site.

The Louie Ingelhart First Amendment Institute is sponsored periodically by CMA in connection with the John Seigenthaler First AMendment Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The institute seeks to teach students and advisers how to become advocate on their home campuses for the five freedoms enumerated in the First Amendment.

Media Pro Workshops provide a chance for students and advisers to connecte with professionals from the gamut of media operations for intensive educational sessions, some presented as multi-day sessions, to provide immersion into a particular topic, skill or method. These workshops are generally presented as pre-convention activities for the CMA's spring convention in New York.

CMA also offers a number of special seminars on an as-needed basis, including early-bird sessions at national conventions focusing on topics such as publication design and advertising and marketing.

Additional workshops run concurrently with student workshops conducted by the Associated Collegiate Press. These workshops traditionally run the first week of August.
