And, for the first time, CMA will sponsor an advisers' workshop on New Media Essentials to better equip advisers on how to provide leadership and training for the newsroom of the future.

Half-day workshops are $39 each and full-day workshops are $59 each. Registration numbers are limited so register soon to ensure availability. The price for workshops goes to $59 and $79, respectively, after February 9, 2009, provided space is available.

Give a helping hand: Volunteer for Critiques

It is time for advisers to consider volunteering to critique student media at the CMA Spring Convention in New York City. Critiquers for newspapers, magazines and yearbooks are needed on Sunday, March 14, and Monday, March 15, 2009.

The critiques are done in half-hour-session, cold-read critiques. Volunteers can do as many or as few as they have time or the desire to do them, said Bill Neville, interim critiques chair.

To volunteer to critique:

  1. Decide which day or days you want to work, either Sunday afternoon or Monday morning.
  2. Decide at which times you want to work, ie., which half-hour session(s) you can do critiques.
  3. E-mail Bill Neville with your preferred days and times.
